Member Connect Event: Indigenous Community Engagement

The MediaRING hosted a special #NAIDOC #BecauseOfHerWeCan Member Connect Event at Redfern Community Centre on Tuesday, 31 July 2018 talking about everything Community Engagement.

We had a panel of three inspiring women:
Dixie Link-Gordon – Senior Access Officer, Indigenous Women’s Legal Program – Women’s Legal Service NSW
Bianca Hunt – CEO of Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience (A.I.M.E)
Medika Thorpe – Festival Director, Winda Film Festival and also Coordinator of Media RING.

Also, thank you to Anne Weldon from the Metropolitan Aboriginal Land Council who opened the event with a beautiful Welcome to Country address.

Being from all different fields of work, they talked about the value and importance of community engagement and what it meant to them and how it aligns with their work and life.

The event was followed by a lunch prepared by Aunty Patty, a local Aboriginal elder and a special performance by singer, Shanell Dargan.

Media RING would like to thank those who were able to come along and who tuned in. It was a great opportunity to meet members of the local community and hear inspiring stories by our amazing panel.

You can catch the full panel discussion on our Facebook Live video, see below!
